The NHL just doesn't get it, the left hand doesn't know what the right hand is doing. Ashton was only given a 2 minute penalty, & now he is facing a suspension. Something is wrong with this picture. Either the guilty player should be given a match penalty for that type of infraction then face a suspension, or if in the eye of the ref it is just a 2 minute penalty then leave it at that. |

it was stupid of him to finish that check.
he had to take the guy, he had him lined up and thats his job on the 3rd/4th line to lay the body...it was just unnecessary to hit that hard when your along the boards like that and hitting from behind.
a game or 2 and he will have pleny of time to think of how stupid that was. |

that is part of the problem too.
but thats because shanny, bettman and the rest of the flunkies have done a poop job.
EDIT: shanny is at least better than Campbell though, what a disgrace that was. |

It was stupid and he deserves a game or two for it.
But the sideshow of inconsistency continues with Shanahan. Where is Fishers phone call for a possible suspension on this?:

"The 22-year-old Ashton beat out former Leaf Joe Colborne for a fourth line spot based mostly on a willingness to use his 6’3” 215 lb frame to play a more physical brand of hockey"
Not sure this is the case I think the thought was Ashton had more potential as Colborne failed to crack the roster several times, more giving up on Colborne. In hind sight I would rather have Colborne on my team. |

shannahan is not good at his job, as a matter of fact hes horrible.

I don't believe that was the case. Ashton plays a hard brand of hockey suited to 3rd and 4th line minutes. Colborne is a 2nd line guy, he's soft for his stature, no way he outplayed our top 6 and he isn't defensive enough for the 3rd. |

I'd be pretty surprised if he gets more or less than 2 games. |

Agree with you about the type of player but neither should be in our healthy line up. I guess I would rather have Colborne in reserve than Ashton. Either way no big deal. |

Yes sir but Colborne's name wasn't followed by "going to the dressing room to get his nose fixed again." This after the team publicly begged him not to fight. Colborne isn't aggressive but he certainly isn't embarrassing.

quite a bit actually. He was their 1st lineCenter - led all forwards in icetime... on both teams

Police asked Varlamov. "Why do you keep beating your girlfriend?" He replied, "Well, I think it's because I'm much bigger than her, I'm in better shape, I have lightning quick hands and superior footwork." |

He had the puck a lot but couldn't do anything with it. I noticed that he still plays like he did here. Never once used his size to drive to the inside on any of his multiple rushes down the boards. |

the nhl should hire former enforcers to work with shanny
that way, after an incident, the suspension would be determined as such
Shanny: Hey Domi, would you have fought this guy for that?
Domi: Yup, that guys needs a shot in the mouth for that one
OR
Domi: nope.. that one was fair
based on Domi's answer Shanny issues a suspension
nice n simple.. and everyone is happy.. after awhile.. the accountability would come back.. they just have to keep suspending guys over and over and over til they get it through their skulls

true, but he and Jackman had been getting into it for a few shifts. He saw a chance to really nail him and he did.
If they had fought earlier, this hit doesn't happen.
But ya, he should pick a better spot.
Everybody likes to hate on Ashton, but he's a lot more reliable than either McLaren or Orr. He can actually skate and forecheck, and is pretty good defensively for the role he plays.
Once everybody's healthy he's probably the 13th forward and will only play against the Wings and other teams that might severely outskate the 4th line, and definitely won't fight them. |

ya... probably don't want to be making jokes about beating women.
